PAST
born to a loving father and mother, laurence grew up a happy child. he realized he was trans at a very young age and his parents agreed to put him on puberty blockers as soon as needed. he grew up accepted and loved. had his first “boyfriend” at 7 and his first “girlfriend” at 9. his first kiss at 14, tucked behind the bleachers of his high school and giggling like mad.
he first met alex in high school. it was crush at first sight for laurence though he was sure the beautiful, lanky junior barely noticed the awkward freshman giving him doe eyes from across the lunch room.
time went on and laurence went to college. there, he met none other than craig cahn, destined to be a good friend for a long time. 4 years of utter shenanigans followed, from adopting a “third roommate” to jumping off roofs into pools to bluffing sobriety to cops.
they went their separate ways senior year, just before something amazing happened.
alex came back.
they reconnected at laurence’s temporary job, barista/waiter at a small cafe. as it turned out, alex did remember him and they fell into a fast friendship. laurence’s crush came back just as fast. only this time, it was reciprocated.
2 years into their relationship they decide to adopt a baby girl. after going through the bullshit hassle of being two men trying to adopt, they take home a baby girl. amanda.
she’s everything laurence could have hoped for and he’s absolutely smitten, determined to spoil her at any given opportunity. they spend several years as the perfect, happy family.
only to have it dashed seven years later.
a car crash, a phone call. DOA, they tell him. his life partner, gone. he tips at the edge of severe depression, only powering through because of amanda. because of his need to provide for her at all costs.
slowly, things get better. and when amanda turns 18, they move to a small cul-de-sac on the other side of maple bay…
