laurence looks down at his hands. fingers curl slightly and he stretches them out, plucks at a loose thread on his jeans. robert, he thinks. this is about robert. he’s not sure how that makes him feel, how it SHOULD make him feel. that joseph’s previous affair affects this– whatever it is.

in the end, joseph has to make the choice. he can make it different, if he chooses. but somehow, laurence doesn’t think this will go in his favor. joseph isn’t going to change things just for him. if he didn’t leave mary for someone like ROBERT, there’s no way he’s gonna do it for someone like LAURENCE.

he shakes his head, fingernails biting into his palms as he curls his fingers tight. bitterness fills his chest, coats his tongue. it’s not fair. joseph isn’t HAPPY. laurence KNOWS it. and yet– and yet his STUPID sense of loyalty or faith or whatever the fuck holds him back.

^{the absence of the retreat of laurence’s hand does not process, though it’s not something he cares to notice at the moment. the only thing lucius can find himself looking at is the man before him as he thinks of what he wants to say. the dual meaning to his words is only just now understood, but he doesn’t retract anything.}

laurence doesn’t move when a shadow falls over him, just tips his head to the side slightly, enjoying the warm sunlight heating his body. he’s since come to recognize the sound of lucius’ steps, even in the soft grass.

he does, however, open his eyes when he feels a hand in his hair. a puzzled expression crosses over his face as lucius pulls back and he reaches up to touch his hair. soft petals brush against his fingers and he gives lucius a bemused smile.

^{it’s almost a game now, how easy he can launch the man into a stuttering fit. he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t having any fun, especially with the comments that somewhat came out of laurence’s mouth. the grin keeps to his lips and he chuckles, reaching up to pry one of his hands away from his face.}
